This is me. I'm a busy, tired mom of three, and I rely on jewelry and my naturally even skin tone to complete my look. I own dozens of broken eyeliner pencils, a couple mascara tubes, and various shades of eye shadow that get used a couple times a year. I've had the same makeup for several years, and I never even use it. I don't think I need it. I don't think anyone needs it. I feel really lucky that I have such naturally clear skin and curly(ish) hair. But I don't always feel good about myself. And I think that's the power of putting on makeup and doing your hair and wearing accessories. It's not about changing your appearance, but enhancing your natural beauty and getting that extra boost of confidence when you put in those few moments for yourself.
I'm not interested in having to spend an hour or more getting ready in the morning; I just don't have time for that. But I do think it would help my self-esteem, confidence, and productivity if I put in just a few minutes to highlight my best self. My best friend gifted me an Ipsy subscription for Christmas, and I'm excited to try out some new beauty products. And I'm going to try to break out of my sweats-every-day rut, and find something that helps give my curls definition and body.
My biggest concern is my weight. I'm the heaviest I've ever been -- 100 pounds over my healthy weight range. I won't lie, it's hard to feel beautiful most days. And it's hard to find the motivation to take care of my body and make all the changes I need to. But maybe if I find ways to feel good about myself now, maybe if I learn to put some effort into feeling my best, it will motivate me to take care of my body the way I need to. So here's my journey. It might seem silly. It might not seem important. But I'm hoping it makes a difference to me.
